As the sky seems to be the only space in this world where no boundaries are existing, the kite festival on the 14th of January is the ideal event to bring people from various levels of society together to celebrate freedom and peace. This time, Café Mohalla decided to go with the Café on a tour with the Give Peace A Chance- Fly Peace Campaign through the various levels of Jaipur’s society to discuss and spread the word of peace with the chosen groups.
In 2009 the Pravah Jaipur Initiative organized a Fly Peace Campaign for the first time. This year, participants of the Café Mohalla at Pravah independently organized the campaign as a form of citizen action to get together on these days for a few hours a day to celebrate freedom and the desire for peace and harmony among all religions and ethnic groups. The focus groups therefore were school students from various schools in Jaipur, children with different abilities, children living in marginalized areas, people living in old people’s homes and children with AIDS with whom they have planned various actions, e.g. writing peace messages on kites, painting their faces, flying kites and discussing the individual meaning of peace. They want to promote the use of Sadda that one understands that no one needs be harmed. Partner organizations as Faith, Muskaan, Help Age India, UMANG and IDGAH provided the framework for the volunteers to get in contact with the various groups in society.
